I just moved to California. Can I still rent a car for my DMV test?

Yes, provided you have a valid California instruction permit and a confirmed behind-the-wheel test appointment. An out-of-state permit may need to be transferred before you can take the California test.

I’m an international driver who just moved to the U.S. — can I rent a car for the DMV test?

We generally provide compact, automatic-transmission sedans that are comfortable and easy to operate.

Policies & Pricing

What is your cancellation policy?

All cancellations incur a $70 fee. Cancellations within 48 hours, no-shows, and DMV refusals unrelated to our vehicle or service are non-refundable.

Safety & Driver Readiness Policy

DMV Rental Car services are intended for customers who already have basic driving ability and are preparing for their DMV behind-the-wheel test.

Our drivers may refuse or stop service if they reasonably determine that the customer:

• Has little or no prior driving experience
• Cannot safely control the vehicle
• Creates a risk to the driver, vehicle, public, or DMV property
• Refuses to follow safety instructions

If service must be stopped for safety reasons, the appointment may be terminated without a refund because the driver and vehicle have already been dispatched.

Customers who have never driven before should complete appropriate behind-the-wheel training with a separately licensed driving school before scheduling a DMV test-day service.

How much does it cost to rent a car for a driving test?

Our standard test-day vehicle service is $249 and includes the vehicle, licensed driver, required vehicle documents, and check-in support.

What is included in the rental price?

The service includes a test-ready vehicle, licensed driver, current vehicle registration, proof of insurance, a brief vehicle orientation, and check-in support. See what’s included on test day

Why does pricing vary between DMV test car rental services?

A test-day vehicle service involves more than providing a car. Vehicle condition, document preparation, driver availability, travel time, and check-in support can all affect pricing. Our service is structured to reduce preventable check-in problems and delays. See how test-day support works

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept major credit cards through our secure payment process.

What happens if I fail my driving test? Can I re-rent?

Yes. You can request another booking after scheduling your next test appointment. Returning customers who previously tested with us receive 5% off their next DMV test car rental or Experience Boost service.

International Drivers (Adults 18+)

If you become a California resident and intend to drive, California generally requires you to apply for a California driver’s license within 10 days. Confirm your specific situation with the California DMV.

What documents do I need to apply for a California driver’s license?

Document requirements depend on the type of license and your individual immigration or residency status. Review the current California DMV document checklist before your appointment.

Do I need a Social Security number to get a California license?

The requirements depend on your eligibility and the type of license you are requesting. Applicants who are not eligible for a Social Security number may have a different application process. Check the current California DMV requirements before applying.

The process generally includes submitting an application, providing the required documents, completing the vision and knowledge tests, receiving a California instruction permit, and passing the behind-the-wheel test.

Do I need to take a knowledge test? How many attempts do I get?

Most first-time California applicants must complete a knowledge test. Attempt limits and application rules can change, so confirm the current requirements with the California DMV.

What happens if I fail the behind-the-wheel driving test?

You will need to schedule another test appointment. A waiting period or retest fee may apply depending on your age and application. Follow the instructions provided by the DMV after your test.

Do I need a REAL ID, or can I get a standard license?

You can choose a REAL ID or a standard California driver’s license. A standard license remains valid for driving. For domestic flights and certain federal facilities, you will need a REAL ID or another federally accepted form of identification, such as a valid passport.

Can I rent a test-ready car for my driving test?

The vehicle must have current registration, proof of insurance, license plates, and working safety equipment. A licensed accompanying driver is also required for a permit holder. Final acceptance is determined by the DMV examiner.

Do I need original documents, or are photocopies accepted?

Document rules vary depending on what you are presenting. Review the DMV’s appointment checklist and bring original or certified documents whenever required. Do not assume a photocopy will be accepted.

How soon will I receive my driver’s license after passing?

If you pass and complete the DMV’s remaining requirements, you will generally receive an interim paper license before the physical card is mailed. Delivery times vary.
