What happens on test day

1
Your driver arrives
They call or text, then meet you at the entrance or in the parking lot.
2
You check in together
Your driver helps you check in and hands the examiner the car's paperwork.
3
The examiner checks the car
They use the DMV's pre-drive checklist. Final acceptance is determined by the DMV examiner.
4
You take your test
Only the examiner rides with you. Your driver waits, then leaves with the car when it's finished.

What to bring

California instruction permit
A foreign or international license doesn't replace it.
Confirmed behind-the-wheel appointment
The tests we see start at :00, :20 or :40. A time like 10:30 may be a different type of appointment, so check your DMV confirmation.
DMV documents
Anything the DMV asked you for when you booked.

Under 18? The DMV requires an accompanying driver who is 25 or older, and we send one.
